Well here we are again....My month for the Bag of the Month Club. I've really been itching to share my design with you! It's been a bit of an evolution actually! I started out with a Large (Full Moon) Traveler size....then I decided to add a Small (Half Moon) Weekender or Overnight size.....and then my daughter Amy planted the idea in my head that it would be great to have an even smaller size....so in a last minute rush, along came a bonus Baby (Quarter Moon) size....The perfect handbag size....or makeup case....or toiletries....or any number of other handy uses! :)
WOW! Did I give myself a lot of extra work! haha! All in all I am very pleased to bring you the three sizes though and I think the effort was worth it as there is sure to be a size to suit everyone! So without further delay....lets take a look!
Introducing the Lunar Collection:
The pattern for the Lunar Collection provides three sizes to choose from. All versions sport a front slip pocket with optional flap and two side pockets each closing with a pull cord which are perfect for use as shoe pockets on the two larger bags.
The Full Moon & Half Moon versions have a luggage sleeve at the back for easy transportation on top of your rolling luggage.....and the Quarter Moon version sports a handy slip pocket which I use for my phone, an iPhone 6 Plus which fits perfectly. The roomy interior has a large zipper pocket. There is also an optional adjustable strap.
PLUS...Available separately (But included on release to the BOMC members) is an Optional Pocket Supplement for adding extra interior pockets – suits all bag sizes! Yep....I couldn't help myself! Those that are familiar with my designs know I just LOVE pockets! Halfway through testing...I HAD to design some more pockets to go with these bags! LOL
The pattern is rated Advanced due to the curved nature of the Gussets which, while they look great, they are a little challenging to master..... plus the design has many features which add to the construction time. If you are a Bag of the Month club member and are a beginner sewist, I highly recommend you complete the other 5 months designs first and then tackle this one using all cottons....
Having said that, there is a LOT of info and help packed into the pattern all designed to make sewing the bag as straight forward as possible. Remember, if you need help, there is help available and you should never fear the advanced! My mum always said "Nothing ventured, Nothing gained" and I think it applies in sewing as well as other areas of life....You need to get in there and have a go or else you will never know what you are capable of! You may just surprise yourself! :)
Finished size, including side pockets is approx.
Full Moon: 61cm W X 43cm H X 25.5cm D (24” W X 17” H X 10” D)
Half Moon: 46cm W X 35.5 H X 18cm D (18” W X 14” H X 7” D)
Quarter Moon: 36cm W X 29cm H X 15cm D (14” W X 11 ½” H X 6” D)
We will be running a Sew Along Event in the Bag of the Month Club Facebook Group, starting on Thursday 9th June Australian Eastern Standard Time.....run by our sew along expert Ellen and her usual awesome sew along photo tutorial blog posts will be posted here in conjunction with the Facebook Sew Along.
The Lunar Collection is currently only available as part of the Bag of the Month Club but it will be released for everyone else on July 1st however there is still time to join the club and get all of the patterns from January through June, if you just can't wait until July! AWESOME!
Let's take a look at the AWESOME tester photos! First up is Marilyn of Shades of Bold. Marilyn has tested for me for as long as I can remember and she absolutely never fails to impress me with not only her gorgeous workmanship BUT also with her reliability and booboo spotting ability! Way to go Marilyn!
Marilyn chose to make the Full Moon....Here's the back view:
You really have to stare closely to see the luggage sleeve!
Next up we have Maria from Mia's Creations. Maria made the Full Moon size. WOW....just look at that stitching on the front pocket flap. I also love the addition of the trim on the flap and side pockets! Maria didn't waste any time trying out her bag as no sooner had she finished, off she went on a holiday! She tells me she loved the really large size of it as she was able to fit in everything she needed!
Next up is Nancy of Wrapped in Love...Nancy was super quick to finish so she could up and whisk her bag away on a trip too!
I love the pretty interior on Nancy's bag....a neat surprise when you look inside!
Next up is Daryl from Patchouli Moon Studio. Such an AWESOME bright Full Moon! I just LOVE what Daryl did on her flap! She didn't have one of the half moon closures so used a regular magnetic snap and decorated the flap itself instead!
Next up we have Judith of Judith Stitches. Judith made the Half Moon size. As much as I love brights, I also love browns! GORGEOUS fabrics!!
AND sporting an Emmaline Tag! COOL!
Next up is Namrata's GORGEOUS bag with the POP of red! LOVE it! Namrata made the Half moon size.
Next up we have Robin's Half Moon and Quarter Moon bags. Robin decided to get adventurous with her photography on these bags and so headed off with her daughter to the local Train Station for pics...only she and her daughter took a detour and got lost! Bahahhaaa! They got to see some countryside and even found an Alpaca farm close by they didn't know existed! What FUN! Thankfully they finally made it though and got some great shots!
Robin blogs over at Robin's Fabric Nest.
Next up is Pat's Half Moon. I really LOVE the colours in Pat's bag! ......and the lining looks totally AWESOME!
....and just look at Pat's Polka Dot Zipper! How COOL does that look! Check out Pat's Etsy shop HERE!
Next up....we have Judith's Quarter Moon! As I only decided to add the little baby moon at the last minute. The testing had already been completed by a number of the testers and so I was really PLEASED when Robin and Judith put their hands up to go again and test the Quarter Moon size for me....especially on such short notice and with only days to get it done! Kudos Ladies!! Judith made her's to co-ordinate with her half Moon! LOVE it!
Next up is Krista's Half Moon! There is something very stylish about this fabric and faux leather combo that I really LOVE!
Here we can see the back Luggage Sleeve in action!
Next up is Katherine's Full Moon! Golly Gosh I just LOVE this! Katherine used fabrics from the Alison Glass Ex Libris Collection - Art Theory. I just have to get myself some of this...it is truly a STUNNING fabric and this Full Moon shows it off in all its Glory, especially with the sparkly black glitter vinyl Katherine has used! Gosh....I want some of that too! Heck...I just want this bag!!
Here you can see the luggage sleeve in action....so handy!!
Next up we have Ellen's Half Moon. Ellen was able to coax her daughter Anne Marie into modelling the bag for her. (No amount of coaxing or bribing will convince either of my daughters to model for me! BOO HOO!)
What an AWESOME spot for a photo!
LOVE this pop of orange interior! Check out the nifty water bottle holder Ellen made from left over strap she had from the side pockets. What a great idea! She also used the luggage sleeve as a slip pocket on the interior of her bag AND she added a hook for keys or whatever else you don't want to lose in the cavern of this bag! ;) Ellen, of course, will be back to share more awesomeness for you during our Sew Along! So don't miss that!
Next up we have Natalie of Carry Hers by Natalie. This is the first time Natalie has tested for me and I must say WOW! Her work is STUNNING!
Natalie also used the Pocket Supplement to add extra pockets to the interior of her bag.
Next up we have Rachel of A Tiger in a Tornado. Every time I look at Rachel's bag it makes me smile. It's so FUN! I LOVE it! Rachel always uses really FUN fabrics and I love the anticipation of waiting to see her next fabric choice!
Rachel also used the Pocket Supplement for adding extra pockets to her bag! AWESOME!
Next we have Andrea's Half Moon bag! I LOVE it! What more can I say! :)
Andrea was lucky to have her brother do the photography for her.....
And last but definitely NOT least is Pamela's Quarter Moon! I just LOVE Pamela's fabrics...... GORGEOUS! :)
Oh and lets not forget Norma, our trusty proof reader! Thank you Norma! Norma blogs over at Norma's Bag Boutique so please do stop by there for a look as well! :)
So now I hope you are feeling inspired and ready to sew your own Lunar bag..... But who can stop at just one?....Why not make the entire collection!
